In 2024 Ian was invited to Downing Street to provide evidence on energy reduction in the new homes sector.

COP26 Climate Conference
Ian was proud to speak at the COP26 international climate conference in 2021 in Glasgow. His subject was decarbonising the house building industry.

Fellow of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals
Ian is a long-standing Fellow of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (FISEP). This is the highest level of membership that ISEP offers.

Chartered Environmentalist
Ian is a long-standing Chartered Environmentalist (C Env).

Next Generation Awards
Next Generation is the sustainability benchmark for new build housing. Ian was pleased to lead Taylor Wimpey's Next Generation Disclosure securing numerous Next Generation Awards, including gold awards.

Sustainable House Builder of the Year
Ian was proud to have played his part in Taylor Wimpey winning Highly Commended in the Sustainable House Builder of the Year 2021.

CDP Water Award
Ian was pleased that Taylor Wimpey was presented with the CDP award for Most Improved Water response in 2017. Under Ian’s leadership the company was an early proponent of taking coordinated management action on water issues.

Edie Awards
Taylor Wimpey's Net Zero Transition Plan was shortlisted for the edie Sustainability Leadership Awards 2024 for Net-Zero Strategy of the Year.

Chair of working groups on waste and brownfield at NICOLE
Ian chaired working groups on waste and brownfield at NICOLE, the European sustainable land management network. At NICOLE he made a contribution to the understanding of soil as waste, and to brownfield remediation, across multiple European jurisdictions.

Waste Framework Directive
Ian led a delegation from NICOLE to meet the rapporteur for an update to the EU Waste Framework Directive and helped secure a concession for the construction industry on the reuse of clean and natural soils reused on the site of origin.

Constructing Excellence National Awards
Ian developed a programme to facilitate the sharing of suitable surplus soil and recycled aggregates between construction sites and regional business units, promoting material reuse and waste reduction. ReUSE was Highly Commended in the waste category of the Constructing Excellence National Awards in 2012. It was also Highly Commended at the Housebuilder Awards in the same year.

Cabinet Office
Notable was Ian’s work on the definition of waste in construction with the Cabinet Office, which ultimately led to new process for managing soil, the CL:AIRE DowCoP (Definition of Waste Code of Practice).

Chair of the Land Forum
Ian Chaired the Land Forum, a group that interfaced between government and industry on sustainable land use issues. The group later became the National Brownfield Forum which continues to this day with focus on brownfield issues.
